OTP SMS to Türkiye: a technical guide for A2P buyers
One-time codes, delivery receipts and successful verification are different events. Define the right requirements before launching Türkiye-bound OTP traffic.
Understand OTP, A2P and 2FA
OTP means a one-time password or passcode; A2P means application-to-person messaging. Sending an application login code by SMS combines the two. Two-factor authentication requires two different factor types. An SMS code on its own does not automatically make a journey two-factor authentication.
Measure three separate events
Acceptance of a send request is the first stage. A carrier delivery receipt, or DLR, provides feedback about message transport. The user entering the correct code and completing the action is a separate application outcome. Compare these events by destination network, time window and use case. A delivery indication is not proof that the recipient read the message or completed verification.
Separate transport from verification responsibilities
Code generation, expiry, resend intervals, attempt limits and duplicate-request prevention belong in the application design. Bring your preferred API or SMPP interface, connection security, error codes, timeout policy and reporting callbacks to the technical discussion. These are requirements to confirm for the project, not a claim that every MyVoip engagement includes an identical managed verification platform.
Evaluate each new country separately
Sender identity, traffic origin and permitted use must be assessed for the destination. A Türkiye proposal does not establish coverage elsewhere. SMS is not a phishing-resistant authenticator; NIST treats authentication over the public telephone network as restricted. Plan alternative factors and account recovery according to the risk of the transaction.
Prepare for the discussion
- Destination countries and networks; sender brand
- OTP and transactional templates; code lifetime
- Monthly volume, peak messages per second and resend policy
- DLR scope, errors, integration and acceptance criteria based on real use
